Membership Options

Students Access to the Rec

Undergraduate students receive automatic access to the David Williams II Recreation and Wellness Center (Rec) through the Student Support Fee, which is included in their tuition and fees. Graduate and professional students have access if they are assessed the full on-campus Student Services Fee. Graduate and professional students enrolled in online or remote programs pay a reduced Student Services Fee that does not include Rec access.

Summer Membership Options (June 1 through July 31)

Note: Summer memberships provide access to the Rec during summer operations, which may include modified hours, programming, and space availability.

Active ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø Students – Summer Only

Students not enrolled in summer coursework for academic credit, but who are returning to Vanderbilt for graded coursework in the fall semester and have not graduated, may purchase a summer membership for June and July.

Summer Interns Living on Campus

Summer interns living on campus may purchase a summer membership for June and July if they appear on an approved university-provided intern list and are verified by Rec staff during the in-person purchase process.

Purchasing a Membership

An individual must fall into one of our approved membership categories to purchase a Rec membership. Memberships must be purchased in person prior to facility use. See the and information below for eligibility details and purchase instructions.

Membership at the David Williams II Recreation and Wellness Center (Rec) is available to:

  • Current ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø employees (faculty, staff, and postdocs)
  • Current university interns and scholars
  • University recognized retired emeriti faculty
  • Current ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø Medical Center employees

University Plus 1 Membership Benefit:

University employees, current university interns and scholars, and retired emeriti faculty may add one (1) Plus 1 member to their membership as a benefit of maintaining an active Vandy Rec membership.

Plus 1 members must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Reside in the same household as the sponsoring member

To verify residency, both the sponsoring member and the Plus 1 member must schedule an appointment with recmemberservices@vanderbilt.edu and provide acceptable residency documentation as outlined by the Membership Team.

Plus 1 memberships remain dependent upon the sponsoring member’s active Vandy Rec membership status and cannot continue independently if the sponsoring member’s membership ends.

Student Spouse Memberships:

Current Vanderbilt student spouses are eligible to become Rec members. To access this benefit, student spouses must comply with all policies outlined in the The enrolled Vanderbilt student and their spouse must obtain a valid Family Identification Card from Vanderbilt Card Services to verify relationship status before purchasing a membership. At the verification meeting with Rec staff at the Welcome Desk, the student spouse must also present their Vanderbilt ID. Membership eligibility is contingent on the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø student remaining actively enrolled in classes.

General Membership Policies:

  • Memberships must be purchased in person using a debit or credit card only.
  • All memberships are non-refundable.
  • Membership fees will not be reimbursed or prorated for closures or changes in operations (e.g., summer semester, university holidays, construction, maintenance, breaks, or other necessary events).
  • Memberships are assigned to a specific individual and are not transferable.

Guest Policy

Guests are not permitted access to Rec facilities during normal operations. Families and friends are welcome to use the Rec only during designated university events (fall move-in, family weekend, homecoming, fall move-out, spring move-in, commencement, and spring move-out). All guests must complete a liability waiver before entry, and any child under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent at all times.

Parking

For the protection of students, faculty, staff and postdocs, no parking is allowed at anytime, anywhere on campus, without a valid ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø registration permit, except by visitors in spaces designated for visitors. For more information visit /traffic_parking/.

Minors Under the Age of 18

At this time, children under the age of 18 are not allowed in the facility except to attend university events open to the public or participate in university approved youth programs.
