Overview
Yuri’s research interests are in computational mechanics, with emphasis on the modeling and simulation in solids and structures, fluids, and their coupling in HPC environments. While most of Yuri’s modeling efforts reside somewhere between the macro and meso scales, he, on occasion, collaborates with scientists and engineers interested in micro- and nano-scale phenomena. Yuri’s most recent effort in these directions involves the development of coupled diffusion-mechanics theories to study anelastic recovery phenomena for architected nanostructures [1]. His recent efforts also include the study of electrocapillarity phenomena [2] and of droplets and cells moving on elastic foundations driven by gradients in the elastic properties [3] or in the induced strain [4], using a coupled fluid-structure interaction (FSI) modeling framework developed for the interaction of complex fluids and solids [5].
