Quick-thinking, Confident, Communicative, and Collaborative: Fundamentals of Applied Improvisation for (Bio)statisticians and Data Scientists
The Middle Tennessee chapter of the American Statistical Association is excited to host this half-day course on using applied improvisation skills to increase confidence, react more effectively to unexpected events, engage colleagues with active listening, and build ideas through sincere collaboration. No experience queried; parking and lunch are included. The instructor is , PhD, FASA, a prominent biostatistician and professional performer.
Participants are encouraged to enroll in multiple courses. View the Summer Institute FAQ for additional information. Registration is open until July 13 for courses starting on July 20, and until July 20 (or when all spots are filled, for Terra-Based Cloud Computing) for courses starting on July 27.

ACTStat 2026 Annual Meeting
The 2026 annual meeting of the Association of Clinical and Translational Statisticians will take place in Boston, at the start of this year's Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM). Associate professor of biostatistics and executive director Dandan Liu is president of ACTStat, and assistant professor Bryan Blette was the 2025 Early Career Award winner.

The theme of the 2026 Joint Statistical Meetings is "Communities in Action: Advancing Society," and a number of Vanderbilt Biostatistics students, faculty, staff, and alumni will be participating in this year's edition of the largest annual gathering of statisticians in North America. ICHPS 2027
The theme of the 2027 International Conference on Health Policy Statistics is "Evidence-Based Policy in Action: Statistics, AI, and Digital Health in Practice." Its organizers include associate professor Andrew Spieker as conference co-chair, alumna Sarah Lotspeich (PhD 2021) as student committee co-chair, and PhD student Ashley Mullan as outreach committee member.
Our department hosts weekly seminars throughout the academic year that feature biostatisticians from around the world. These are regularly attended by faculty, staff, and students, as well as members of the wider community; individual and small-group meetings with the speaker and faculty-led discussions help foster the exchange of ideas and insights cultivated by this series.
