    Eligibility Requirements: Teaching partnerships are intended for middle school teachers in grades 6th-8th in Metro Nashville Public Schools. Interested teachers should display a dedication to the education of all children, a commitment to their own professional growth, and a record of fostering communities of learners. Applicants must agree to an observation and interview by the program coordinator or staff.

    Teacher Educator Time Commitment:

    • Attend a summer 3-day workshop.

    • Provide at least 15 opportunities for scientist educators to plan, implement, and co-teacher lessons. This can be the same lesson implemented several times across schools and class periods but ideally will include a mix of several lessons implemented over the course of a semester in one or more middle school classrooms.

    • Attend at least 3 professional learning workshops that may include topics like Ambitious Science Teaching, Framework-led curriculum design

  • For Graduate Students/Postdoctoral Fellows: The Scientist Educator Application

    Eligibility Requirements: The fellowships are intended for postdoctoral fellows, Ph.D., and M.S. graduate students in any of the life and physical sciences, mathematics, or engineering, as well as secondary M.Ed. students.  This can include, but is not necessarily limited to chemistry, geology, physics, biological and biomedical sciences, and environmental science. Ph.D. students have to be admitted to Ph.D. candidacy prior to beginning the fellowship, and M.S. graduate students should be at the end of their second year of graduate work prior to beginning the fellowship (this requirement is designed to accommodate fellows with flexible schedules).

    The program is particularly well suited for graduate students who are at the dissertation writing stage. Interested graduate students must be nominated by their research advisor. Students must be enrolled at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø, Meharry Medical College, Tennessee State University, Fisk University, or Middle Tennessee State University and must express a strong commitment for a career in academia and teaching.

    Fellowship Time Commitment:

    • Attend a summer 3-day workshop.
    • Plan, implement, and co-teach hands-on STEM curriculum in at least 15 middle school class periods each semester with a cohort teacher. This can be the same lesson implemented several times across schools and class periods but ideally will include a mix of several lessons implemented over the course of a semester in one or more middle school classrooms.
    • Attend at least 3 professional learning workshops that may include topics like Ambitious Science Teaching, Framework-led curriculum design. 
    • Scientists will additionally iterate on creating engaging curriculum for the middle school classroom and culminate with a final hands-on, standards-based lesson that incorporates the scientist's expertise and can be perpetuated in future years.

    1. A letter of intent describing your reasons for participating in the SCP program.
    2. A transcript of graduate study.
    3. A transcript of undergraduate study.
    4. A letter of recommendation (this should be sent by the person making the recommendation to the appropriate address listed on the science teaching fellow application). Must be from the graduate research advisor.
