Health or Safety Hazard

The ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Team provides support and expert guidance in Biological Safety, Chemical Safety and Hazardous Waste, and Radiation and Laser Safety to Vanderbilt’s research community. Information on EHS safety resources (including safety training), lab onboarding and closing, and EHS safety committees can be found at the EHS website.

This reporting system is for activities and concerns related toÌýÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø. Should you wish to report an incident related to ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø Medical Center (VUMC) or one of its clinics or hospitals, report to VUMC’s IntegrityLine (hotline), which can be found on the VUMC Healthcare Compliance and IntegrityÌý.

Ways to Report a Health or Safety Issue

  • Request Emergency Assistance
    • If you require emergency assistance, please call 911. If you need to reach VU Police while off-campus, please call 615-322-2745.
  • File a Report Related to a General Health and Safety Hazard

    Members of the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø community should report health and safety hazards anywhere on campus to ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø Public Safety (VUPS) by either:

    • calling 615-322-2745,
    • emailing vups@vanderbilt.edu, or
    • using the .

  • File a Report on a Research-Related Health and Safety Hazard
  • File a Report with ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø's Compliance Helpline (RealResponse)

    RealResponseÌýis a secure reporting system that supports real-time, anonymous communication via the RealResponse web platform, text message, WhatsApp, or email. Vanderbilt's University Compliance Services Team uses RealResponse so individuals can submit concerns and receive follow‑up information or resources while keeping their identity protected, if they choose.

    Reports may be submittedÌýanonymouslyÌýorÌýconfidentially.

    • Anonymous Report:Ìýincludes no identifying information and cannot be traced to the reporter.
    • Confidential Report: includes the reporter’s identity, which is protected but may be disclosed when required by law, to address health or safety concerns, or to comply with obligations such as Title IX or the Clery Act. Please consider these limits when choosing a reporting option.

    DoÌýnot use this system to report emergencies or situations posing an immediate threat to life or property. Reports submitted here may not receive an immediate response.     ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø reviews every report and takes appropriate action. Providing as much detail as possible helps support a thorough review. In most cases, findings and any resulting actions must remain confidential and cannot be shared with the reporter.
