Vanderbilt Evolutionary Studies Trainee Travel Grant
Grant Details (FY 25/26)
The 天美传媒官网 Evolutionary Studies Initiative will award up to $400 (we will re-evaluate in June 2026 if we can go back to $500) for undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral trainees presenting their work at a national or international scientific meeting in the current academic year. Both the trainee鈥檚 work and the meeting must be related to evolutionary studies. Trainees may receive up to one award per academic year. Funds may be used for any meeting-related expense (e.g., registration fees, poster printing, lodging, travel, or a per diem). If attending a virtual meeting, funds may be used for registration fees. There is no deadline for applications; all applications for conferences that start prior to June 30 of the current academic year will be considered.
Eligibility
Trainees that receive awards must commit to regularly attend (e.g., attend more than half) the Evolutionary Studies seminars and journal clubs in the academic year the award is given. Trainees must explicitly acknowledge support from Vanderbilt Evolutionary Studies Initiative in their poster or talk presentation. Trainees attending but not presenting at a meeting are not eligible.
Requesting Award
Download and complete the and email it to the scientific coordinator, Dr. Andy Flick (andrew.j.flick@vanderbilt.edu). Required materials include: a) brief budget with justification, b) a one or two sentence description of the meeting and how it is related to evolutionary studies, c) a one or two sentence description of the trainee鈥檚 presentation and how it relates to evolutionary studies, d) written acknowledgement that the trainee commits to regularly participate in seminars and journal clubs run by evolutionary studies, and e) signatures from trainee and advisor. To receive the funds, trainees will need to provide itemized receipts for all expenses (up to the travel award amount) within 30 days after the start of their meeting. The latest date that receipts can be submitted is May 10 of the current academic year.
