Summer Housing

Summer 2027 on-campus housing is available to Vanderbilt undergraduates with:

-Summer coursework enrollment
-Athletic participation
-Unhoused status
-Approved international travel concerns

Students must apply and be approved.

Students attend Multicultural Affair event on Commons Lawn.

General Information

  • Eligibility

    Summer 2027 on-campus housing is available to Vanderbilt undergraduate students who meet one or more of the following criteria:

    • Enrolled in Maymester and/or summer session courses (during their term of enrollment)
      • Including Maymester trip participants who require housing after Saturday, May 8 at 9 a.m.
    • Student athletes in competition, courses, and/or research, or internships
    • Students who meet the Tennessee definition of homelessness (link)
    • International students with safety-related travel concerns or visa issues (Requests will be reviewed in collaboration with Global Safety, ISSS, and Student Care Coordination.)

    All students who apply and meet the above criteria will be provided with summer housing.

    The following students are not eligible:

    • Students graduating in May 2027
    • Students who withdraw from the university during the spring 2027 semester
    • Graduate/professional students
    • Non-Vanderbilt students

    Students seeking off-campus options may use the .

    Non-Vanderbilt students enrolled at other institutions completing academic internships or research in Nashville may apply separately for Academic Intern Housing through Conferences and Events.

  • Assignments

    All summer housing will be in TBA.

    • Continuing upper-division students: Assigned to traditional single rooms, pending space availability. If traditional single rooms are no longer available, students will be assigned to traditional double rooms with a roommate.
    • Incoming first-year students: Assigned to traditional double rooms with a roommate.
    • Roommate requests: May be submitted in the application and must be mutual.

    Vanderbilt students participating in summer academic internships or research programs who are seeking housing should contact Conferences and Events at internhousing@vanderbilt.edu or visit the Academic Intern Housing website.

Summer Housing Application & Move-In Information

  • Application Timeline
    • Application Opens: Monday, March 22
    • Application Deadline (May move-in): Sunday, April 25 at 5 p.m. CDT
    • Later move-ins: Applications must be submitted at least 2 business days before the requested move-in date.

    Students who meet eligibility criteria (link to criteria) will be offered summer housing. Students who do not qualify will be contacted. Applications must be submitted no later than Sunday, April 25 at 5 p.m. CDT for students requiring housing immediately upon completion of the spring 2027 semester, or at least 2 business days prior to scheduled move-in for future terms/dates.

    Due to fall housing preparations, move-in requests after Friday, July 18 will not be considered.

  • Move-In Process
    • Students must check in at the TBA front desk upon arrival to receive their room assignment and room key. (Assignments are not available before move-in)
    • Spring residents transitioning to summer housing will be notified via email when their space is ready.

    Parking & Unloading

    • Temporary unloading is permitted in the West End Neighborhood while moving in.
    • Vehicles must display a dashboard pass (available at the front desk).
    • 30-minute limit enforced; violations may result in ticketing or towing
    • Note: vehicles are not permitted in the fire lane behind Zeppos and Rothschild College or in the Zeppos archway.

Summer Housing Rates

Students enrolled in Maymester, Summer Session 1, and Summer Session 2 courses are billed a flat-rate for the specific term.

  • Summer Session 1: TBA (SU26 Rate: $2,303)
  • Summer Session 2: TBA (SU26 Rate: $2,303)
  • Daily Rate (international students not enrolled in courses): TBA (SU26: $65.80/day)

Summer Housing Dates

  • Maymester

    Move In

    • Spring 2027 On-Campus Residents: Between Saturday, May 8 and Sunday, May 16 (based on spaces being ready for occupancy)
    • Spring 2027 Off-Campus Residents: Saturday, May 8 at 2 p.m. CDT
      • You’ll be emailed when your summer housing is ready. You should remain in your spring assignment until HRE approves your move. You must be in Nashville and ready to relocate when notified.
      • Students NOT residing in on-campus housing for the Spring 2027 Semester: Saturday, May 8 beginning at 2 p.m.

    Move Out

    • Saturday, June 5 by 9 a.m. CDT
  • Summer Session 1

    Move In

      • Sunday, June 6 beginning at noon

    Move Out

      • Saturday, July 10 by 9 a.m. CDT
  • Summer Session 2

    Move In

      • Sunday, July 11 beginning at noon

    Move Out

      • Saturday, August 8 by 9 a.m. CDT (see more info in Fall 2027 Transition Options below)
      • Fall 2027 Transition Option: Students living on campus for fall 2027 may apply to move directly into their fall assignment.
        • Move Date: Monday, August 9 (some residents may move later depending on space availability)
        • Cost: TBA (SU26 Rate: $460.60)
        • Additional details will be shared in July.

    Students must remain in housing until they are either:

    • Move into their fall assignment, or
    • Fully vacate their summer assignment

    Students moving off campus or not enrolled for Fall 2027 must vacate by August 14 at 9 a.m. Extensions are not available.

  • Student Athletes
    • All move-in and move-out details will be coordinated with Athletics. Students will be contacted accordingly.
  • Unhoused and International Students (Must Be Approved)

    Move In

    • Move-in timing follows the same structure as other residents (May 8-15 window or May 8 for off-campus students)

    Move Out

    • Move-out aligns with the August 8 timeline or fall transition option (if applicable). Extensions are not available, so please ensure housing arrangements are finalized before August 8.
  • Resident Advisers (HRAs and RAs)
    • All move-in and move-out details will be coordinated with your supervisor. Any questions should be directed to your supervisor.

Fall Housing Transition Information

  • General Information
    • Students eligible to transition directly to fall housing assignments will receive detailed instructions in mid-July.
    • Students who check out of summer housing prior to Saturday, August 8 are required to completely vacate their summer space and will not be eligible to request to move into their Fall 2026 housing assignment until upper-division student move in on Sunday, August 23.
    • Cost $460.60
  • Application to Move to Fall Housing Dates
    • Application Opens: Monday, July 20, 2026, at 8 a.m. CDT.
    • Application Closes: Thursday, July 23 at 5 p.m. CDT
  • Move Details
    • Students who apply and are approved to move directly to their fall 2026 housing assignments should plan to move on Saturday, August 8.
    • Students with single and double room fall assignments in Carmichael College may be unable to complete their move until Sunday, August 9 if their space is occupied by a summer resident.
    • Students who depart Nashville prior to completing their move will be subject to late check-out charges and additional fees.
    • Early or late move request are not permitted.
    • Students who check out of summer housing before August 8 must fully vacate and will not be eligible to move into fall housing until August 23.

Summer Housing Check-Out Instructions

  • General Expectations
    • Remove all personal items, rental items, and trash.
    • On-campus storage is not available.
    • Clean your space (sweep, wipe surfaces, empty all storage areas)
    • A limited number of carts will be available for check out at the Carmichael College front desk for move-out needs.  A valid ID is required to check out a cart.  Failure to return a cart will result in a $300 replacement charge. .
    • Loading a vehicle? Get a dashboard pass at Carmichael College and follow the 30-minute limit—violations may result in ticketing or towing.
    • Improper check-out may result in charges.
  • Check-Out Procedures

    Step 1: Prepare Your Room

    • Pack and remove all personal items; ensuring all furniture & closets are empty
    • Arrange pickup and remove any rental items (Blackstar beds, Hydrodore, etc.) prior to your moving out date
    • Take all trash and recyclables to the proper outdoor receptacles
    • Clean your space (sweep, dust, and wipe down surfaces)

    Step 2: Submit Check-Out Form

    • Complete the Summer Check-Out Form in the Housing Portal
    • Upload a photo of your vacated room.

    Step 3: Return Key

    • Place your key in the provided envelope and return it to the drop box at the TBA front desk.
      • Failure to return a functional, university-issued key from your assigned room will result in a $125 key charge. Keys must be returned at the time of checkout. Keys are not accepted via mail.
    • Carts are available at the front desk for move-out and must be returned after use.
