Our Mission
Our priority is to enable research innovation and international collaboration, not to restrict it. Our role is to support faculty, staff, and students by providing guidance to help researchers navigate export control requirements while preserving their ability to conduct work with minimal limitations.
How Vanderbilt Export Compliance (VEC) Supports Your Research and International Collaboration
International Travel
- If you are traveling internationally, we will assess export control risk through our International Travel Questionnaire (ITQ) and provide guidance to address any concerns, if needed.
International Collaboration
- If you are planning to work with international universities, institutions, or researchers, our office can review your collaboration through the VEC Screening Form to help ensure export compliance.
- If you are planning to host an international visitor, our office can assess potential export control considerations through the VEC Foreign National Visitor (VIS) Form.
Shipments
- If you need to ship materials or equipment abroad, our office can review your shipment through the VEC International Shipment Form to help determine whether export controls apply and assist with obtaining licenses if needed.
Research Guidance
- If you plan to engage in export-controlled research or accept funding with restrictions, our office can assist in implementing a Technology Control Plan (TCP) to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to maintain export compliance.
- If you think you may need a Technology Control Plan (TCP) or have general questions about your research or collaborations, please contact our office at vec@vanderbilt.edu.
Training
- If you would like to learn more about export compliance, our office offers in-person and virtual training presentations, as well as a self-paced online training option.
